What is a YouTube Beauty Guru/Beauty YouTuber?
Be honest — how many times have you gone to YouTube to look up how to do eyeliner for your face shape, how to find your lipstick color, or just how to use a certain product?
Whether the answer is “maybe once or twice” or “a million times, duh!,” you’ve probably already come across a YouTube beauty vlogger and even watched their tutorial videos. From beauty advice to DIY makeup tutorials, beauty gurus create videos about all things beauty.
Makeup Tutorials, Beauty Videos, and More
Beauty gurus are makeup artists and fashion enthusiasts. In the YouTube beauty community, you will find different niches and content styles, but the most popular videos are either makeup reviews or makeup challenges.
Beauty Gurus You Need to Follow for the Best Makeup Videos
Can’t get enough of beauty and lifestyle content? These 9 beauty gurus will satisfy all your makeup needs. We’ve compiled a list of some of the most viewed and successful beauty YouTubers, from the OGs to the up-and-comers.
Without further ado, here are our favorite beauty YouTubers that everyone should follow:
1. Tina Yong
Beauty YouTuber Tina Yong is an Australian lifestyle and beauty vlogger currently based in Singapore. This Vietnamese makeup geek started her channel in 2013 without any intention of getting as big as she is now.
But thanks to her simple, easy-to-follow makeup and hair tutorials, she’s become one of the most prominent beauty vloggers in the community. Currently at 3.58 million subscribers, Tina Yong has since opened her own nail and makeup studio in Singapore.
2. Nyma Tang
In makeup and beauty, dark skin tones are rarely represented. Even the most popular cosmetic brands will have two or three “deep” foundation shades, which rarely cover the vast majority of people with darker skin, leading to an imbalance in the beauty community.
Beauty YouTuber Nyma Tang recognized this problem and wanted to bring more attention to it. In 2017, she launched a series of videos called “The Darkest Shade,” where she tested the darkest shades of different makeup collections to see if they were truly dark. This not only skyrocketed her to fame but brought awareness to the lack of diversity in the beauty industry.
Since then, she has created hundreds of highly-watched beauty videos, collabed with makeup giants (MAC, Fenty, Pat McGrath, and Bobbi Brown, to name a few), and garnered 1.34 million subscribers along the way.
3. Desi Perkins
Although she no longer exclusively makes makeup videos, Desi Perkins is one of the top beauty vloggers from the YouTube MUA circle. She quickly rose to fame after people discovered her talent for special effects and Halloween-style makeup, although she was working in a completely different field at the time.
Now, she posts videos about her daily life alongside occasional makeup tips and beauty tips to her 3.27 million subscribers.
4. Michelle Phan
Way before YouTube videos were even monetizable, Michelle Phan was raking in millions of views with her easy-to-follow makeup tutorials and sweet personality. Before YouTube, she started as a blogger, where people started to first notice her and urged her to post even more. This was way back in 2005 when the concept of beauty YouTuber was nonexistent — until Michelle came into the scene.
Since then, she has steadily risen to fame to become one of the biggest beauty YouTubers in history. She was one of the first beauty vloggers to hit more than a million subscribers, score deals with famous beauty brands, and even start her own makeup line. Because no one else was doing similar content, her YouTube channel became the go-to for young girls learning about makeup.
Now, she’s a makeup industry icon. You can still find some of her original viral videos on her YouTube channel alongside some of her newer, more lifestyle-oriented content. Michelle’s YouTube channel now has 8.79 million subscribers.
5. Nikkie de Jager Aka NikkieTutorials
Looking for comprehensive makeup reviews of all the latest brands? NikkieTutorials has got you covered. Almost all her videos are helpful if you want to know the real scoop on new makeup collections because she does a deep-dive review on them.
She’s also one of the top makeup artists who has branched out to create her own beauty line which her loyal fanbase has raved about. Her most-watched videos include makeup styles, honest reviews, and collaborations with YouTube’s top beauty vloggers like Jaclyn Hill.
Recently, the beauty guru has posted a series of casual interviews with celebrities where she brings her makeup artist skills to life; some of the high-profile guests include Adele and Megan Thee Stallion.
6. Jessica Vu
With over 1.40 million subscribers, Jessica Vu knows how to give her young audience the perfect beauty tips from how to style your curtain bangs to perfecting eyeliner for hooded eyes. Apart from makeup tutorials for every aesthetic under the sun, her videos on YouTube also showcase skin care ideas, get ready with me videos, and relaxing day-to-day vlogs.
What sets her apart from other beauty vloggers is her unique editing style. Unlike many older makeup YouTubers, Jessica’s editing is creative and detail-oriented which makes her makeup tips and other videos all the more entertaining. She also has various fashion videos and lookbooks uploaded on her main YouTube channel, as well as nail art and fashion tips on her Instagram.
7. Ohemaa
The YouTube community is full of talented up-and-coming makeup artists who are worth the follow. One of them is Ohemaa, a YouTuber who tries the darkest shade of different makeup products, similar to what Nyma Tang does.
Ohemaa currently has 157k subscribers on her channel and over a million total views on her makeup videos.
8. Manny MUA
Our next makeup artist is one of the top beauty vloggers and also one of the fastest-growing YouTube channels. Amassing around 4.86 million subscribers, Manny Gutierrez, better known as Manny MUA, made a name for himself through makeup content. In 2017, he became the first man to star in a Maybelline Cosmetics commercial.
His channel features affordable products, life hacks like the best drugstore dupes, and fun collabs that showcase his charming personality. He has worked with other YouTubers in the past, including Jeffree Star, Laura Lee, and even Dr. Mike. If you’re looking for a makeup artist who is brutally honest about products (he has even reviewed James Charles’ cosmetics line), then look no further than Manny.
9. RCLBeauty
Creating content for YouTube can be tough, and for us viewers, it can even feel repetitive. But that’s what RCLBeauty, or Rachel Claire Levin, wants to avoid. Her beauty challenges include the craziest ideas you might think of, including buying every concealer in Sephora, swapping credit cards with other YouTube creators, and tours of her makeup collection. She has even earned the title of singer-songwriter after releasing her own song.
Rachel has been on YouTube for a long time, and even before she started making different makeup and skincare content, she was known for filming short skits. Now, she has 14.4 million subscribers and her videos have amassed over a billion video views.
Final Note
These creators are the ones to watch if you want to instantly upgrade your makeup game or are looking for a new binge-watch to pass the time. Whether your aesthetic is glam, cute, or simple, each of these YouTubers has a few tips and tricks to offer.
