On days you look and feel a little bloated, youโve probably opted for black or dark clothing to slim that figure down. White was never an option, unless it was just a tee or a tank that occupied just a small portion of your body. Itโs true that white can have a bit of a widening effect, but the degree to which it makes some parts look bigger is not as much as you think.
โBut white makes you look fat.โ
You might have been told that once or twice in your life. If weโre talking about white having the opposite effect of black, then yes, the statement would be true. However, color is not the only contributor to that โwidening effect.โ In fact, if you wear it correctly, white shouldnโt make you look fat at all. It would merely draw more attention to your figure.
Though itโs not just that โwhite makes you look fatโ thing that makes people avoid the color. Itโs a magnet for stains โ drink spills, sauce splatters, you name it. And when itโs that time of the month, white is most definitely a no-no.
Yet, thereโs something still quite intriguing about head-to-toe white. Thus, donโt let all that white intimidate you! In case of any spills, pack a stain remover in your purse.
So, you got the stain remover in case of emergencies, so whatโs next? Now itโs actually putting together an all-white outfit. White dresses are obviously the easiest way to go about this, but what about your white separates? To create that Instagram-worthy #OOTD, hereโs what youโve got to do:
Wear it according to your body shape.
The cardinal rule for trying out any kind of trend is making sure itโs tailored to your figure. Whether itโs all-white, all-black, color-blocked or a combination of prints or patterns, the outfit would be unflattering if it isnโt fitted to your figure. Be mindful of which silhouettes look good on you, as well as the ones you should be avoiding.
Play with different textures.
If youโre afraid of appearing one dimensional in just one color, change it up by mixing different textures. For example, a lacy blouse pairs well with white denim. A pair of embroidered shorts can be matched with a white wardrobe basic on top.
Look for feminine details.
Ease up on all that white with feminine details, like an empire waist or an embroidered embellishment. The Backless Summer Dress is the perfect example of this, as all the details make the white ensemble much more appealing.
Mix different shades of white.
The blank canvas look isnโt for everyone, letโs get that right. Instead of wearing just one shade of white, you could also go for a monochromatic scheme, offering you a palette of different whites rather than strictly one shade. Off-white comes in a bunch of varieties, from seashell and floral white, to ivory and eggshell. Youโve got plenty of room for some mixing and matching.
If your coverup or top is a little too sheer for your liking, you can always layer it over a nude, beige or light pink tank. These colors are subtle enough so that they donโt distract from your head-to-toe white.
Sneak in a bit of color.
If itโs too much white for you, you always have the option to add a color pop in your accessories (or your makeup!). A bright red lip will do the trick. Gold accents on your bag or jewelry will level up the sophistication in your outfit. A pink peep toe heel will add a fun factor to the final look. A thin, black waist belt will make the ensemble seem less like a one-piece. A silky scarf will give a Parisian twist to the style. Just make sure that you donโt wear too much of one color, since the main focus should be on the white outfit.
Go for interesting silhouettes.
Itโs one thing to wear a white midi bodycon dress. Itโs a completely different story wearing a white tee and skinny jeans. Both outfits have form-fitting silhouettes, but the latter is definitely an all-white ensemble you should veer away from. If you donโt have a mix of textures or a palette to work with, at least consider the shapes of your separates. There are tons of combinations you could create, such as palazzo pants and a tube top, an off-shoulder top with a mini skirt, etc. Our V-Neck Zipper Long Sleeve Blouse can be worn with white shorts. So, donโt limit yourself to the numerous possibilities in your wardrobe.
