The weather has been nothing short of crazy this past week. I hope everyone has managed to stay safe and as dry as possible during this typhoon. Staying indoors is the best thing for everyone at this point, but since we all have places to be, it’s not exactly possible shutting yourself at home until the typhoon passes.
With such terrible conditions, fashion might be the last thing on your mind, but I’m here to tell you that a stylish outfit might just help with the somber mood inflicted by the weather. We could all use a pick-me-up.
To look and feel like a ray of sunshine on a rainy day, here’s a list of do’s and don’ts:
DO:Β Style from the ground up
Not sure where to start? Two of the most important pieces of your rainy day outfit are your waterproof shoes and umbrella. You actually have more options of clothing than one would normally think for this kind of weather, but the one part that is non negotiable is footwear. Downpours are depressing enough, so you’ve got to keep yourself as warm, comfy and generally happy as you can with the proper shoes.
Rain boots can be pretty uncomfortable if you don’t have the right socks. Ideally, you’d wear thicker socks to protect you against blisters. They’ll also keep your feet cozy.
And if traditional rain boots are too bulky for you, you can go for PU leather boots, like these Martin Combat Boots. You might be able to get away with leather boots like these Mid Calf Moto Boots, but best to avoid anything suede. Also,Β make sure you rub them with beeswax or use water resistant spray to prevent that wear and tear. After all, you want your shoes to last for a long time.Step out in style with these awesome boots!
DON’T: Wear gray
Safe colors to wear in a storm tend to include black, navy and other darker hues. Truth be told, almost any color can be worn in the rain, as it all depends how you’re wearing the color and the material. Although, the one color family you want to avoid altogether (unless the item is made from waterproof fabric) is gray. Rain drops and sweat stains are much more obvious with gray clothing, especially cotton tees, so just be mindful of that.
DO: Be careful if you want to wear white
White’s another color that people tend to avoid in the rain (for good reason), but that doesn’t necessarily mean you HAVE to steer clear of it. Obviously, you’ll need to use some common sense, avoiding things like white jeans, white dresses and white outerwear because of puddle stains. White tanks, blouses and tops in general are fine, as long as you’ve got another layer over it.
DON’T: Style your hair with heat
This seems like an obvious one, but it doesn’t hurt to be reminded.
Even if blowdrying your hair straight is part of your daily routine, you’re best to wear your hair natural, in a high pony, or perhaps in a top bun, styled with gel or hairspray to keep those frizzies in tact. Another way to do your hair is by braiding it. That way, your hair isn’t all over your face when trekking through the wind and puddles. And if some hairs fall out of the braid, don’t worry. No one has ever complained about a messy braid ‘do.

DO: Choose outerwear that will keep you warm AND dry
Probably the second worst thing after your feet soaking in your shoes is a soaked cotton hoodie that never dries in your office building with centralized cooling. When it comes to rainy weather, it’s always better to be too warm than too cold. Thus, finish your outfit with a raincoat, or any other windbreaker type outer layer that will protect you from the downpour and the chill.
Remember, you don’t have to go for the conventional kind of windbreaker that you’d normally get from outdoor sports and fitness brands, as pieces like our Allyson Leather Jacket and Autumn Bomber Jacket are perfect for both rain and shine.

DON’T: Forget your umbrella
You might think that a hoodie or raincoat is enough to protect you from the drizzle. However, never underestimate the rain, especially during typhoon season. An umbrella will at least keep your top half dry, preserving the majority of your outfit in dreary weather.
To lift your spirits, as well as add extra points to your overall rainy day look, go out with a bright yellow umbrella, one with an adorable print, or maybe a rainbow one. Clear bubble umbrellas are ultra chic and totally enhance whatever ensemble you have on.
Stay dry, everyone!
