Did anyone catch the ABS-CBN Ball over the weekend?
The red carpet event is one of the biggest celebrity fashion showcases of the year, with stars donning one-of-a-kind pieces from top designers of the country. Full of glitz and glamour, showbiz heavyweights step up their style game every year, though one starlet that stood out from the crowd was Miss Universe 2015, Pia Wurtzbach.
The former and always confidently beautiful pageant queen stole the spotlight with her glimmering aura, exhibiting a metallic Mark Bautista piece to match her newly lightened hair with blonde highlights, finishing the look with lace-up gold heeled sandals.
She was literally in head-to-toe gold, with smoky gold eyeshadow, nude lips and sun-kissed skin, so she wasn’t just wearing a gold outfit; she had a glowing presence. While some might say that she went over the top with the gold, it was refreshing in the way that metallics are normally used as accents and accessories on an ensemble. Wearing no gold jewelry whatsoever, Pia let her gown speak for itself.

Although a frock like this could never be worn outside of formal events, her take on wearing metallics as clothes rather than accessories was what inspired today’s post. Something as loud, shiny and eye-catching as gold is normally seen on jewelry, clutches and heels, but it’s time we started incorporating metallics into our wardrobe. And to prove that those lustrous colors aren’t just for evening wear, here are our tips on pulling off metallics while the sun’s out.
4 Simple Ways to Wear Metallics in the Daytime
Pair the metallic item with matte fabrics
While Pia was radiant in both the literal and figurative sense, a complete metallic look is never a good idea during the day. You want to mix the textures to avoid looking gimmicky, playing mix and match between glossy and matte finishes. For example, these Glossy leggings could be paired with a chambray shirt, a cozy shoulder-baring knit, or a cotton blouse.
Mix your metallic piece with neutral tones
Neutrals are the perfect base for your metallic clothes. If you’re thinking of wearing a gold piece, try matching it with warmer earth tones, such as olive, beige and burgundy. For silver items, cooler shades work best, such as gray and navy.
For other colored metallics, black, grays or whites are your safest option, but feel free to play with other neutrals to see how well they blend with your metallic clothing. For metallic gray and black, you can experiment with a monochromatic palette, making sure that the items other than the metallic piece are both muted and matte. You don’t want to look like you’re wearing vinyl all over.
Use metallic clothes as your pop of color
Still unsure of which earth tones to mix with your metallic clothes? The easiest way to wear these Chic high waist shorts is by using them as you pop of color in your ensemble. Keep the rest of your separates and accessories either black or white, or perhaps another neutral, depending on the the type of colored metallic clothing you’ve got. You wear pastels against your metallic piece if you love incorporating colors into your daily ensembles.
Streamline your outfit with metallic accessories
While a shiny tote may be too much to match with your silvery blouse, these Scotland flat sandals would be the perfect way to finish your daytime metallic outfit. Although it sounds contradictory, metallic shoes are subtle enough to be used as accents, while a metallic bag might reflect way too much light on your ensemble. If you don’t have any metallic shoes, anything with metallic details would do. For example, these Beaded London sandals would go well with a gold pencil skirt.
What are your thoughts on these tips? Seem simple enough, don’t they? As you can see, metallics weren’t just made for your accessories. All you need is a little bit of courage to wear something outside of your comfort zone, and if you ask me, there’s definitely nothing wrong with adding some glow into your OOTDs.
