Happy 2017 everyone! I hope you had a wonderful break and started the new year with a bang. Sadly, the holidays have come to an end, thus it’s time to start working on those resolutions you made before you rang in 2017. For many of us, our goals are almost always fitness or weight related, which doesn’t really come as a shock to anyone, considering all the delicious food we stuffed our faces with over the Christmas season. It’s completely normal to carry that bit of holiday weight in the beginning of the year, but it can also make us conscious of our wardrobe choices.

By now, clothes may seem a little tighter than before, highlighting a little more of your tummy, booty or thighs. It takes a while of working out before you see any results, but don’t lose hope! There are plenty of styles you can wear while shedding those extra pounds. And the great thing about these clothes is that not only do they hide all your problem spots, but they also look even better when you’re back in shape.

Tops

People have the tendency of throwing on their looser tops when the weight goes to their midsection. However, big shirts and loose tees can get boring after a while. There are lots of garments out there that don’t hug your body and aren’t oversized tops. Look for things that aren’t form fitted, such as our Long Sleeve Hollow Blouse. Because of its sheath silhouette, there’s some more breathing room for you. With the feminine detailing and bohemian style sleeves, people will be focusing on the design of the blouse instead of wondering what your waistline is. Embellishments and details like those are a great distraction from your midsection.

Jeans

Denim is probably the last thing you want to squeeze into at the moment, but stretchy jeans are miracle workers, especially those with a high waist. While some believe that high waist jeans are only meant for those with an hourglass shape or a flat stomach, anything that sits lower than one or two inches below your belly button can lead to that unwanted muffin top. One way to hide that bit of tummy flab is by wearing some high waist jeans. These bottoms end up cinching your waist to shape out some curves, all the while creating the illusion of a flatter stomach. Of course, it also helps to choose something in black or a darker wash for the slimming effect, so something like our Korean Style Elastic High Waist Jeans should do the trick.

Pants

Leggings may be your go-to when jeans fail you, but they’re definitely not the only alternative for bottoms when you’re feeling a little less than sexy. Thankfully, both local and international celebrities have proved that loose pants can be just as flattering as the all-time favorite skinny jean. In one of our earliest posts, we put Liz Uy in the spotlight for her take on palazzo pants, and if there’s one person that Filipinas can trust for style advice, it’s her. Pretty Me currently has two styles of palazzo pants. If you like the cropped silhouette, you’ll be happy with our BJJS Loose Cropped Pants. But gauchos, palazzos and culottes may be a little too wide for certain people’s tastes. For those that are not huge fans of the wide-leg silhouette, you may want to try on the drop-crotch trend in harem pants or joggers.

Dresses and Skirts

The best clothing items are the ones we can move freely in while still looking as sophisticated as ever. Mini dresses and skirts hardly ever fall under this category, so best to save those when you’re in better shape (or for occasions that don’t require much movement). Instead, bust out your maxis and midis. Style gurus will often tell you that maxis are a summer staple while midis are best suited for fall, but the truth is that you can rock these skirts at any time of the year, no matter how much you weigh. Use this time to embrace the trend the first popped up in the 1940’s, give it an updated look by wearing it in denim. Our Denim Line Empire Waist Midi Skirt is a trans-seasonal piece that will totally work in your favor. For casual weekend wear, we also have a wide selection of maxi dresses, suited for a beach getaway, a brunch date or a shopping trip at Greenbelt.

Hopefully with all these outfit ideas, you won’t have to worry about revealing the parts you’re most insecure about.

Until next time!
