Flip flops beach

Hey ladies! How has summer been treating you so far? As you know, Holy Week is upon us, which means a lot of us will be retreating to the provinces to spend time with relatives. Though the extremely crowded stations around this time of year can deter some away from these trips, saving those arduous bus rides for another long weekend. For those that aren’t heading to the provinces, they’ve probably planned a long drive to Subic Bay or an epic party weekend in Boracay. One way or another, plenty of us are going to be making our way to a beach this long weekend.

Packing for a beach getaway seems simple enough, especially with our previous post that shared our favorite items to pair with our bikinis. But the key to packing sufficiently is having mix-and-match separates. Day-to-night pieces that can be adjusted with a quick change of accessories are also in order. With you heading to the beach, you’ll want to be packing as light as possible. It makes sense to do so, given how little you will actually be wearing as you trek across the white sandy shoreline. In essence, you’ll need a beach holiday capsule wardrobe. And to make sure that you’ve got all the cute clothes you need to suit your itinerary, check out our packing list below:

Here’s what you should have in your bag:

1) Mix and match bikinis

Let’s get the most obvious items out of the way first. Having a couple of swimsuit sets is absolutely essential for your suitcase. Even if you don’t own any crochet coverups to turn your bikinis into tropical outfits, having this mix of swimwear already provides some variation into your daily looks. Choose solid hues to ensure easier matching, but don’t be afraid to throw in a couple of patterned pieces as well.

2) Flip flops

We’re not talking about your regular tsinelas that you might wear around the house or on a quick trip to the nearest 7-11. To look your best on the beach, your flip flops need to strike a balance between sturdiness and fashion that can be worn during the day and into the night, when you change into your nighttime ensembles. Sandals are obviously another option of footwear, suited for evening festivities, but an experienced vacationer knows that chic flip flops are all you really need. Plus, they’re easier to take off when you spontaneously go for a midnight dip.

3) Maxi dresses

The addition of denim shorts will easily transform your monokini into an outfit. However, jeans (and any type of shorts really) can be rather uncomfortable in the sweltering heat. An absolute must for this kind of holiday is a maxi dress or two. They take up less room than all your shorts, and the loose skirt will keep you feeling breezy and hide any awkward bikini bottom lines. What you want to do is pack two dresses, one for daytime and another for nighttime. If you really want to be minimal, opt for something like our V-Neck Dot Pattern Maxi Dress. The simple pattern is good enough to wear to the beach and an al fresco dinner. The dress also can work with drinks after.

4) Overall shorts

This might seem like an unlikely item out of the bunch, but hear me out. Denim shorts will always make their way into a beach capsule wardrobe. On the other hand, if you’re looking to change up this beach staple, the unconventional alternative is our Short Style Jumpsuit Dungarees. With a little more coverage on top, a bandeau bikini top would look adorable with the overalls. You can also have one shoulder (or both) unbuckled if you want to show a little more skin.

5) A wide brimmed hat

Regular SPF application and sunglasses will protect you from the harmful UV rays. Nonetheless, you’ll need other items to keep you safe under the sun. For example, a wide brimmed hat is a great fashion accessory that provides extra shade. It also lowers the risk of dehydration, so it’s the perfect style choice for the day. You can also wear it the day you’re traveling to put you in that holiday mood. It also saves you the trouble of destroying its form when packing it into your suitcase.

What you choose to pack alongside these items is up to you. But consider this list as the must-haves for summer 2017.
