What is Lip Blushing?
There is a reason why lipstick is the most important makeup product you’ll ever own: It can transform your look from drab to fab in just a few seconds. With the wide shade range of lip makeup that caters to everyone’s skin tone, the beauty section has indeed grown into a minefield of options.
But, not only do makeup products evolve as time passes by. Cosmetic enhancements and permanent makeup procedures have also entered the trend, and lip blushing is one of them.
Are you ready to get a permanent lip tattoo? Here’s everything you need to know about lip blushing:
Really, What is a Lip Blush?
A permanent lip tattoo, also known as lip blushing, is a cosmetic procedure to tattoo your desired color on your lips and will serve as semi-permanent makeup. Basically, lip blushing is exactly what it sounds like: applying a permanent color pigment.
Lip blush tattoos use a permanent makeup machine to draw color on a person’s lips. It also enhances the lips based on the desired shape of the client without increasing volume.
The whole procedure can be done at home, but a permanent makeup artist often performs the procedure (and is recommended to do so!)
Cosmetic Tattooing vs Traditional Tattooing
Cosmetic tattoos emerged from traditional tattooing as artists began using the method to create a variety of cosmetic effects. A traditional tattoo and cosmetic one both insert tattoo inks onto the skin using needles. However, despite their similarity, cosmetic tattoo is different from traditional ones.
A typical tattoo penetrates the deeper layer of the skin. On the other hand, a permanent makeup tattoo is only applied on the upper layer of the dermis, a skin layer below your epidermis. The permanent makeup aesthetician applies tiny drops of pigment to the line and shades your skin.
That being said, the colors of cosmetic tattoos are much more natural. Using a special formula than regular tattoo ink, it is made as semipermanent makeup that may fade over time.
Cosmetic tattooing, just like permanent lip tattoos, typically enhances the natural skin feature of a person by using certain effects that are typically accomplished with regular makeup.
Is Lip Blushing Permanent Makeup?
Tattooing is a permanent thing; so is lip blushing. The question is, how long does lip blushing last?
Since the formulation of lip color is created to mimic natural lips, it may fade over a few years. If you want the pigment to appear longer, you may need regular touch-ups from your esthetician.
Does Lip Blushing Change My Natural Lip Color?
The lip tone can be customized based on your preference and needs, but it does not change your natural lip color forever.
Some technicians customize the lip pigment based on the preference of their client. With this, make sure to discuss your preferred color with your technician. You can also bring your favorite lipstick that matches your skin on your appointment day to give your aesthetician a better idea of what you want. Once your technician mixes a color up, you can always add or take away certain tones before the tattooing begins.
If chances are, you don’t like your new lips, you can opt for laser removal. Make sure to consult a local dermatologist first for your tattoo removal lasers to avoid allergic reactions on your skin.
Does lip blushing make lips bigger?
Since lip blushing is a form of semi-permanent makeup, it enhances the lip colors and gives a definition of fuller lips that complement your skin tone. It also enhanced the symmetry of your facial features from your top lip up to your bottom lip without actually increasing the volume.
Take note: Lip blushing only gives an illusion of fuller lips. If you aim to get volumized lips, you can get a lip filler instead.
Is Lip Blushing Painful?
Lips are made up of sensitive lip tissue. It may easily get irritated, so how bad does lip blushing hurt?
To answer the question, it depends on your pain tolerance. However, it shouldn’t be any more painful than a regular tattoo. Don’t worry! A numbing cream will be applied to your lips to reduce swelling and pain during the procedure.
How Does Lip Blushing Work?
Knowing exactly what will happen during your lip blushing session will help you understand the process. If you are anxious about your lip blushing treatment, ask your permanent makeup artist some questions without hesitation.
Here’s what often occurs in a regular session:
- Before lip tattooing starts, a topical numbing cream is applied and left on for about 20 minutes.
- After the lips start to numb, the cosmetic artist will begin to draw the shape using a bright colored red lip liner.
- Using a light shading technique, the lip blush artist will go over the lips two or three times
- A topical anesthetic is applied every other time.
- Once the process is complete, the aesthetician will clean the lips and apply a healing balm.
The whole procedure usually takes place for about an hour to an hour and a half. After your initial session, you can do a second session a few weeks later to touch up the color.
It is recommended that a lip blush should only be done by an expert cosmetic tattoo artist to achieve naturally beautiful lips.
Aftercare
After the session, the lips will be swollen, moist, and tight, so proper aftercare is a must. The healing process of a lip blush tattoo is estimated to be around four to seven days. As your lips heal, make sure to take utmost care of them with the following tips:
Use a Lip Balm or Occlusive Ointment
Since lips will be swollen and sensitive for a couple of days, using an ointment or moisturizer is crucial. Don’t let your lips be dry as it will damage your skin. You should also avoid using lipsticks until the lips are completely healed.
Get Anti Viral Medication
If you have a history of cold sores or herpes, take note that lip blushing may cause an outbreak. You can get a prescription for an antiviral medication to avoid getting one.
Avoid Sun Exposure
A person who just gets a lip blush should take really good care of the lips. During the first two weeks after treatment, you should avoid getting under the sun as the lips are still sensitive. In addition, sun exposure can make the pigment fade quicker than usual.
How Much Does Lip Blushing Cost?
Similar to other permanent procedures, prices are high for lip blushing. While it varies depending on the location and the amount of lip color, the price usually costs between Php 20,000 to Php 50,000 for the initial session.
Final Note
Lip blushing is a permanent treatment that brings color to your lips without having to use makeup. It improves the appearance of your lips by making them appear full and soft-looking.
If you have pale, uneven pigmentation and aging lips, a long-lasting colored ink on your lips, like lip blushing can be your best friend.
