How to Make a DIY Hair Growth Serum
These easy, simple, and straightforward DIY concoctions are perfect for anyone, beginner or not. However, despite its simplicity, an all-natural serum is no less effective for hair growth. So grab those essential oils, your mixing bowl, some carrier oil, and let’s get to work.
Hair loss isn’t something one likes to go through, but with the help of these solutions, you’ll be sure to get those luscious locks back in no time. And your hair follicles will thank you for it! Here are a few recipes and how to use them:
Lavender Essential Oil Hair Growth Serum

Essential oils are popular in Eastern medicine for treating many ailments. This is because they have generally low side effects, which means there’s no harm in trying them. Need a serum for dry hair and an itchy scalp? A hair serum for damaged hair and split ends? With essential oils, the possibilities are endless.
There are plenty of essential oils for hair growth, and this oil is just one of them. This oil is a great serum for regenerating hair cells and honestly, we love it because it is so fragrant. To DIY, mix the following ingredients:
- 3 tablespoons coconut/olive oil
- Several drops of lavender
Massage into your scalp and leave for 10 minutes. This wonderfully simple serum also has antimicrobial properties, which removes fungus, leading to a healthier scalp. Use serum multiple times a week to see results.
Rosemary Essential Oil DIY Hair Serum
One of the best essential oils for hair growth is rosemary. It works its magic by improving cellular regeneration, which in turn keeps the hair healthy, thick, and growing! This hair growth serum recipe is simple. To DIY, just mix the following:
- Several drops of rosemary
- 2-3 tablespoons of olive/coconut oil
Massage into the scalp and let it stay on for 10 minutes. Use serum twice a week for best hair results.
DIY Tea Tree Essential Oil Hair Serum
Tea tree oil is one of the best essential oils for removing bacteria in the skin. For hair growth, it works wonders, too. It works by removing bacteria in the scalp, unclogging the follicles, thus increasing hair growth. But be warned! This essential oil is possibly the strongest of the ones we’ve mentioned. The best way to incorporate this serum into your routine is by adding 10 drops to your shampoo, used every day.
You can also use this formula:
- 2 tablespoons olive or coconut oil
- 3 drops tea tree oil
Apple Cider Vinegar & Green Tea Hair Growth Serum

The two holy grails of hair care, ACV and green tea make a powerful combo. Green tea is a known antioxidant, and it also contains polyphenol which can boost hair growth. Apple cider vinegar, on the other hand, is great for unclogging hair follicles, removing all the dead skin cells that are the culprits behind hair fall. Together, ACV and green tea promote hair growth, rejuvenate the scalp, and prevent thinning hair. For this DIY serum, you’ll need:
- 4 tablespoons ACV
- 1 cup room temperature green tea
Massage the serum onto the hair and leave on for 5 minutes then rinse well.
Coconut Oil Hair Serum
This carrier oil can work wonders by itself! I have had my fair share of hair mishaps, and my hair definitely benefited from this oil. You can use it unheated, or heat the coconut oil, let cool, then massage onto the scalp. Wrap your hair in a towel, then leave on for an hour. This DIY serum works as a wonderful mask that restores healthiness and shine to your hair, promoting hair growth, reducing dryness, and repairing overall hair damage.
You can use masks and serums for treating a number of hair problems, too! Here are two of our favorite recipes:
Honey & Castor Oil Hair Serum for General Care

For whatever reason, we’re all going to have bad hair days. Maybe even a bad hair week. Blame it on the humidity or a bad bleaching job, our hair is going to need some tender love and care every once in a while. But contrary to what you may think, this DIY hair growth serum recipe doesn’t take time. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 cup of organic virgin coconut oil
- ½ cup of honey
- ½ cup of castor oil
This works a little bit differently than the typical DIY hair serum. Start by mixing the coconut oil and honey in a glass bowl, making sure they’re well blended. Then, heat the bowl in a microwave for around 2 minutes. Massage the serum on to your scalp, this time prioritizing the tips over the roots. Rinse it off after 20 minutes. Apply castor oil for a lasting shine.
Egg mask for softening dry & dull hair
important is getting rid of it pronto. The solution is actually closer to home than we think. In fact, it is right in our refrigerators! To soften dry and dull hair, go for a DIY egg hair mask. Eggs have been popular in all-natural DIY skincare regimens, but putting all that goodness in your hair? Life-changing. Here’s what you need to do:
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 1 cup coconut milk
- 1 lemon
To make this DIY mask, simply beat the egg in a bowl until the yolk is completely mixed with the white. Add coconut milk, olive oil, and lemon juice while making sure not to drop any seeds in. Mix well and leave on your scalp for 15-20 minutes.
If you know the best way to care for the damaged parts of your hair, you’ll have stronger locks down to the very root. With these recipes, you can make hair care a priority despite a busy schedule. Each DIY hair growth serum is easy, but the benefits last long. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to stock up on these wonderful natural concoctions!
If you’ve got no time to whip up your hair growth serums yourself, we recommend you try the tried and tested Aloe Grow shampoo and conditioner instead.
