Beauty gurus make it all look so easy, don’t they?
You can buy all the most expensive products out there, but if you don’t have the right tools or know the proper techniques, applying makeup can be extremely frustrating, not to mention, time consuming.
It takes so much practice to perfect the eyeliner wing, and so much trial and error finding the right shade of foundation that neither cakes nor creases. It’s stuff like this that makes people want to wear less makeup on a daily basis. Plus, the weather just makes it less likely that your look will last throughout the day, without blotting the buildup of oil your face or reapplying your lipstick.
But don’t lose hope! While you may not possess the skills of a makeup artist or enough time in the morning to put your face on, there are several products out there that absolutely anyone can wear on a daily basis, regardless if you’re a beauty vlogger or a woman who still doesn’t understand the use of primer.
When you’re in a rush in the morning, you only really have time for a “barely there” look that highlights your facial features and conceals your blemishes. With some products needing to dry before blending or setting, who has the time to execute a full face on a regular work day? Some of just need quick fixes to make us at least look alive.
Too often, celebrities and makeup artists post video tutorials for their version of the “no makeup” makeup, only to end up using 17 different products, almost defeating the point of a simple, natural look. What a woman on-the-go needs is a beauty routine that’s both efficient and effective. To have that, you need makeup products that are dual or multi-purpose.
Here’s what you should have in your makeup bag:
1. BB or CC Cream
In case you never knew, BB stands for “Blemish Balm” while CC stands for “Color Correction.”
For a long time, I was pretty doubtful of these creams that were marketed to moisturize, prime, conceal, cover your face (and color correct, for CC creams), with some even offering SPF protection. Although those creams may not provide the full coverage you might get from your foundation, it does the job of multiple beauty products, which is more than what you can ask for in a single tube.
Another option you could for for is a tinted moisturizer, but it only really works for those with near flawless skin. If you’re looking for something that brightens up a dull complexion, as well as covers spots and hydrates without making your face oily, the first step in your new beauty routine would be to apply BB or CC cream all over your face, and blend into your neck.
For those with an oilier complexion, The Beauty Insiders suggest that you stick with CC Cream.
2. Liquid Concealer
BB and CC creams can do a lot, but you might have certain areas of your face that needs some extra coverage. Liquid concealers are the better option over stick and cream for several reasons; they have a smooth and buildable application, are less likely to crease, and work with all skin types. Thus for those stubborn spots and dark circles, you can cover and blend with your favorite liquid concealer. Make sure your concealer is a shade lighter than your foundation, as that helps brighten up those dark spots.
What’s also great about liquid concealer is that it doubles up as a matte highlighter. It’s all about “nontouring,” which New Beauty describes is the opposite of that overly chiseled makeup look so famously popularized by the Kardashian klan. Use your concealer underneath your brows, along your nose, cupid’s bow and chin, then blend.
3. Brow Pomade or Mascara
What’s the point of makeup if you’re not going to wear your brows? Eyebrows are the most noticeable feature on your face, so brow makeup is essential. Pomades and mascaras work better in terms of offering lighter, hairlike strokes without needing to be too artistic. Pencils, on the other hand, require a little more skill and time. Drawing on your eyebrows too quickly with a pencil will result in block eyebrows that look anything but natural.
4. Lip and Cheek Tint
Still missing a bit of color in your face? To bring out that natural flush, apply a lip and cheek tint on the apples of your cheeks with your fingers, and then roll it across your lips. What’s notable about our Lip and Cheek TintsΒ is the fact that it’s so buildable. So often, double duty products like these end up staining your skin, leaving no room to blend out the overly pigmented color.
