Did you catch all the looks of Coachella this year?

The influencer-filled and star-studded music festival has officially ended, and so it’s time that reflect on it, specifically what people wore to Coachella.

Other than the awesome performances and Instagram-worthy food, fashion is one of the hottest trending topics across social media and style platforms, so let’s just get right into it, shall we?

Instead of looking at every single one of the looks from the Coachella, we’re simply going to cover the Pinay celebs in attendance. Although California is a long way from the Philippines, quite a few Filipina famous faces managed to make it for a portion of the two-weekend event.

Without further ado, here are the beautiful Filipinas that graced the festival grounds.

Angelica Panganiban

Angelica was super trendy at Coachella, fashioning a pink geometric waist bag (or what was formally known as a fanny pack) as a cross-body over a tropical knotted crop top and buttoned denim shorts. She also channeled the 90’s with a matching bandanna and stacked chokers, which provided a modern nostalgia to her whole look.

Chi Gibbs

Chi and Gabs Gibbs love to coordinate their ensembles, and Coachella was a great opportunity for them to follow a theme while still showcasing their personal styles. Neon was the name of the game for most of their attendance, as Chi sprung for green separates while Gabs opted for pink. Chi was true to her “Lime Crime” vibe by wearing matching eyeshadow, then finishing the outfit with white chunky mules for some contrast.

Ericka Villongco

Having lived in Los Angeles for quite some time now, Ericka has completely embraced LA style and festival fashion, donning a studded bikini, a feathered tutu and chunky white calf boots, accessorizing with details such as a diamond waist belt, futuristic shades and an embroidered cardigan.

Gabs Gibbs

When the Gibbs sisters weren’t wearing neon, they still found ways to make sure color was at the forefront of their ensembles. In the evening, little Gibbs was spotted in a sleeveless turtleneck midriff with printed high waist culottes that highlight her indigo crop top, finishing the OOTD with a cross-body bag and combat boots.

Liza Soberano

When was the last time you saw camo pants? Although the print never really made a comeback like mom jeans, scrunchies and overalls, camo still had a major impact on the fashion industry, which was clearly never lost on Liza. The young actress kept her Coachella look simple with a black tank and layered necklaces, looking like a time capsule from the 90’s.

Kelsey Merritt

The half-pinay Victoria’s Secret Angel was truly a bohemian princess at this year’s music fest, wearing a lot of delicate, handwoven fabrics and embroidered pieces. Our favorite was this angelic, boho beach bride look, composed of white floral lingerie separates with a floor-length sheer cover-up fastened by a waist belt. Kelsey almost looks like she just stepped off a VS Fashion Show runway.

Maja Salvador

And to conclude this Pinay Coachella style watch is Maja. Wearing the cutest and most feminine white off-shoulder crop with puffy sleeves on top of her shorts and black ankle boots, she also wrapped a tan cardigan around her waist to complete her neutral palette. Maja also left her hair down in soft, beachy waves and layered long necklaces to add on to her down-to-earth appearance.

To get back into the groove of things, we’ll just get right into today’s topic.

Like most of us coming back from the holidays, you’re probably broke from all the food, shopping, parties, and other daily expenses during your time off. Thus, going out with friends every weekend for meals or drinks is not exactly in the budget.

So you can’t afford nights out for a while, but no one ever said anything about nights in. You can cook with your friends, have friends bring food over, then end the night with a movie or two. That way, you can hang out with your friends without having to spend a ton, all within the comfort of your own home. It’s a win-win for everyone.

If you’re planning on having the girls over and need ideas of titles to stream, why not go for something fashion inspired? Obviously, fashion movies are what we’d suggest here at Pretty Me, but you have to admit, costume design is a crucial element in plot development, and it’s interesting how much you can learn from the characters by their style of clothing. And let’s not forget, great outfits do offer aesthetically pleasing visuals, as well as inspiration for our own wardrobes.

There are loads of documentaries and biopics out there, but we decided to focus on fictional movies that offer more entertainment value, in case some guests aren’t as invested in fashion as you.

A Single Man

Tom Ford may switch between his fashion designer and film director hats from time to time, but it’s blatantly clear that he has a unique sense of artistry that translates in all his creations. Scenes from his directorial debut almost look like video shoots and fashion campaigns, and Julianne Moore’s ensembles are to die for.

Annie Hall

Androgynous fashion proves its popularity decade after decade, and one person we could thank for making menswear for women mainstream is Diane Keaton’s portrayal of Annie Hall. Donning fedoras and pantsuits throughout, she showed us that women’s fashion doesn’t have to be feminine, and thus became a pop culture icon we never knew we needed.

Atomic Blonde

While this one isn’t a fashion-themed movie in the slightest, you have to applaud Charlize Theron for those single shot fight sequences while still rocking vintage Dior and Burberry trenches. MI6 spy Lorraine Broughton makes it look so effortless kicking ass in heels. If only heels were that easy to walk in during a night out.

Atonement

Without a doubt, the most memorable costume of the film was that green dress seen on Keira Knightley, worn during that famous scene that started it all (you’ll know what “all” means when you finish the movie). Just be prepared to be reaching for the tissues for this one.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Honestly, any Audrey Hepburn title are considered classics in the fashion genre, though it was definitely this film that completely revolutionized the fashion industry back in the ’60s.

Clueless

Cher Horowitz’s closet was so ahead of its time, and probably every ’90s baby out there is still wishing they had one just like hers. While the majority of her clothes would be classed as preppy, you’ll see the occasional tee and slip combo and some other ’90s trends that will seriously have you embracing more throwback fashion.

The Devil Wears Prada

Of course, we weren’t going to leave out the QUEEN of all fashion movies. From that makeover to the seasonal coats and all the way down to the her very last outfit that struck a happy balance between Andy pre- and post-Runway Magazine, this movie will have adding more to your shopping wishlists.

The Great Gatsby

The 2013 remake was nothing short of the glitz and glam originally depicted in the novel. If you haven’t seen the film yet, it’s basically a fashion designer showcase, with costumes supplied by Brooks Brothers, Prada and Tiffany & Co.

Ocean’s Eight

Another movie where fashion isn’t technically at the forefront, Ocean’s Eight does lead up to the Met Gala, one of the most coveted fashion events in the US. The film’s version of the ball is no less extravagant than the real thing, with celebrity style icons appearing as themselves wearing dresses straight from the runway.

Sex and the City

The Sex and the City series was rather questionable in terms of fashion, with equal amounts of hits and misses. The movie, on the other hand, was incredible, without it being controversial like in the second film that had the characters in over-the-top, sometimes tasteless and culturally insensitive ensembles.

I don’t know about you, but packing is one of the most exciting aspects of traveling (other than the vacation itself, of course). Across all your holiday packing lists should be your closet essentials specifically tailored to the weather conditions. You might be thinking, wardrobe basics on a trip? How boring! I’m here to tell you that basics don’t mean boring. The essentials lay the foundation of a great ensemble, and with a switch of accessories, shoes and outerwear, you’ll find an outfit for every activity on your itinerary. Just ask everyone’s favorite girl next door, Liza Soberano.

First off, who is Cardi B? You might have heard of her, or seen her across media publications. But if you’re not updated with American hip hop scene, you probably don’t have a clue who she is.

It doesn’t really matter whether you are a mega fan or lost on all things pop culture. However, we are going to tell you why she matters.

Former stripper/reality TV star/Instagram influencer turned chart-topping female rapper, Cardi B is at the top of her game right now, breaking records left and right with her single ‘Bodak Yellow.’ Taking the crown away from Taylor Swift, the reigning champ of number one hits on the US Billboard Hot 100, she is the first female rapper to reach the top of the chart since Lauryn Hill’s ‘Doo Wop (That Thing)’ back in 1998.

Not only is she making history with her success in music, but she’s also stealing the spotlight in fashion shows. During NYFW, Vogue named her the ‘Undisputed Front Row Queen’ for her daring sense of style. Describing herself as a risk-taker, she transforms fashion trends to make them her own. Some might say she has an in-your-face aesthetic that challenges you to be a trendsetter, just like her.

Take her unconventional sporty chic outfits as an example. Most of us would identify leggings as the quintessential item that forged the athleisure movement, yet the rapper is not about the yoga pants. She brings in her own flavor into the mix, giving the trend the Cardi B touch to make it her own.

Georgina and a couple of the other It Girls have received some flak lately for a couple controversial Instagram posts, but let’s forget about for the moment. However, don’t dive right into the print if you’re not totally confident with it yet. As with any other style or trend that you’re not familiar with, ease into it. Start off subtle, then work your way up to the colorful, bigger dots. And if you still can’t seem to find your groove with the print, here are a few tips to guide you:

Black-and-white is classic

When in doubt, match your crop top with high waist bottoms.

If there’s one rule to remember when sporting a crop top, it’s this one. Whether they’re denim shorts, a midi skirt or leggings, the one fit you can rely on is the high waist. And you’ll find this to be true across all kinds of midriffs, long or short, loose or tight, long-sleeve or tube, printed or plain.

But high waist bottoms aren’t your only options.

Today, we’re taking our heel inspiration from the gorgeous celebrity and up-and-coming fashion powerhouse, Zendaya. The star has moved on from her Disney days and has become one of the youngest and most influential names for body positivity and female empowerment by redefining her role in Spider-Man and creating a size inclusive clothing line. Plus, her fashion sense is impeccable, so it was only fair for us to feature her as our current style inspiration.

In a couple of her recent Instagram posts, she was snapped wearing jeans and heels. While there are many ways one can wear jeans with strappy sandals or stilettos, we want to share a few style tips to create some balance.

1) You can never go wrong with skinny jeans

The form-fitted nature of the skinny jean is perfect for showing off your footwear. These bottoms streamline your silhouette. And when you slip into shoes with some height, your legs will instantly look longer.

2) Cropped jeans are also a fantastic option

Show off them ankles by going for cropped styles. Your heels will always be the star of any outfit, so draw more attention to them. If you don’t own any cropped jeans, double cuff them to put the focus on your shoes.

3) Wear pumps with distressed denim

Jeans with rips and such tend to encourage something less feminine, such as moto boots and sneakers. But take it from Zendaya. Distressed denim, particularly ones at capri-length, go great with pointed pumps. Opt for ones in white so they match the white frays on your jeans. 5) Wear brighter shoes with darker, looser denim

We’ve covered a lot of how-to’s on denim pieces, from finding the best jeans for you to new ways to wear your denim cut-offs. It’s safe to say that jeans are a crucial part of every woman’s wardrobe, manifesting in denim jackets, chambray shirts and denim skirts. In our last post dedicated to the fabric, we shared our tips on updating the ’90s denim mini, which is perhaps one of the more forgiving jeans trends compared to the rest. Longer jean skirts, on the other hand, are slightly harder to pull off, not to mention more restrictive in terms of movement. Thus, many of us end up fearing longer denim hems and sticking to what we know best.

But there is one celebrity that has embraced the retro style instead of shying away from it. Julia Montes, who is currently in Thailand with her mother, recently posted her #OOTD for the Summer Palace. Featuring a calf-length chambray skirt paired with a black tee, hat and sandals, she makes it look so easy to wear that much denim.

And the truth is, once you get over the fact that it covers more than your denim mini, it is actually that easy to wear a full length jean skirt. As long as you keep the following in mind, there really is no reason to be afraid of this denim style.

Find a skirt with an A-line silhouette

When working with a heavy textile, shape is key. A denim skirt doesn’t hold up well when it comes in a sheath silhouette. What you want to find something with a defined structure, otherwise the denim will look dowdy. A-line silhouettes are flattering on every body type and will never be weighed down by a fabric like denim. Opt for a skirt with buttons

Another way to break up all that fabric is by finding a skirt with waist-to-hem buttons. Fashion Idea One: Modern Chic

Emma likes to sport very put-together pieces. Reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn, she opts to choose very classical pieces. What makes her style fresh though is her ability to mix and match pieces. The key to this look is keeping a very simple base but then adding a spark of color with either a jacket or accessory. Or, you can do the opposite and wear a very trendy dress and then adding a tailored jacket.

The rule here is to look effortless. This is a play between casual and fancy. With the dress+coat combination, you can pair it with white sneakers for an even more relaxed feel or with basic pumps to look more feminine. The coat also works well with dark jeans and a floral top.

Fashion Idea Two: Blue and Black

Do you know that the original Disney film played subtle color tricks on us? In the cartoon version of Beauty and the Beast, Belle was the only one to wear blue in the entire film until the Beast became human (watch it again if you don’t believe us!). When Belle and the Beast dance, you will see that that there is a reverse of the color, with Beast wearing blue to symbolize that they are truly a pair.

Emma Watson’s tour may – on purpose or not – have reflected that. She sported a lot of blue outfits, but our favorite on was her blue and black dress she wore in France. There were no frills to the dress; everything was basic cut and meant to impress.

We are often tempted to buy dress with so many burloloys – thinking that the sparkle and the glitz will make us more attractive. The truth is ladies, sometimes the simplest things give the most impact. By wearing a clean-cut dress in a shocking color, you pay tribute to your skin, your figure, and most of all, yourself. People won’t be distracted by anything else except how great you look! Another good reason to wear blue? Filipina skin reacts well to the shade, making the blue undertones come out. You look instantly radiant and glowing without having to wear make-up!

Fashion Idea Three: Black Leather

Arrgh. We are so in love with black and leather this season! Seriously, black is the color of the summer (we teach you how to pull off an all-black look in this fabulous guide). Emma seems to love the trend too, sporting a classic black dress with a black leather jacket when she went to London.

As with the previous two ideas, the look is minimalist without being boring. There is enough detail in the bodice to keep the look fresh and clean. To fully go out with this look, you can pair this off with a biker leather jacket. Too hot, you say?
