But the key to packing sufficiently is having mix-and-match separates. Day-to-night pieces that can be adjusted with a quick change of accessories are also in order. Rock those leather jackets! Okay, sometimes we can get lazy. But this is no reason to stop being stylish! Another easy way to match as a couple is to wear different leather jackets. Your boyfriend can go for an edgier biker look, while you can pair your simple tee and jeans with a more subtle leather cover.

This is technically not a matching couple idea, but it’s something we thought worth mentioning anyway. Nothing screams “we’re a couple” more than looking like you wear each other’s clothes whenever possible. Women who rock the boyfriend shirt look look effortlessly sexy. The key here is to choose a shirt that fits well. You can look like a hobo in an overlarge shirt (not to mention that this does nothing for your figure, by the way). It might seem a little strange to talk about all black fashion with summer coming up. Most people would think that the color would be best suited for our rainy season (or even around December when we’re trying to cover up all the weight we’ve gained during the holidays). The truth is though, black is a color that can worn all year round – as long as you know how to do it.

People usually choose one piece of black clothing and stick with that. The look is classic but – let’s face it – quite boring. As the shadow in our body insecurity, the area covered by that black piece of cloth just looks diminished and sad.

This guide is meant to challenge that thinking! Black should not be about covering things up but of expression too! If you look at many fashion icons, from Grace Kelly to Marilyn Monroe to Audrey Hepburn, you’d see that they all favored monochromatic styles. They made wearing black from head-to-toe incredibly chic, sexy, and most importantly, effortless.

Fashion stylists have come up with three cardinal rules to all black wear which we will be sharing with you now.

Vary Textures

To avoid looking like a ninja goth hitting puberty, mix and match textures. Pair softer fabrics with edgier ones. The possibilities are endless. A good rule of thumb is to keep harder fabrics around areas you’re more comfortable showing off. So, for example, if you like your shoulders, go for a crop top in satin or leather then matching them with cotton pants

If you’re wearing a lacy, feminine dress, opt for a more masculine coat or jacket and pairing this with black boots and leggings. The effect is classic chic. For summertime, you can simply discard the leg-wear and choose simple black flats and exchanging the jacket with a beaded shawl.

Maximize the Little Things

One of the best reasons to wear black is because it’s easy. We’ve all done this: just throwing on the first thing we see and hoping we still look good. If you’re not interested in thinking which black piece should go with this black piece, try going for a singular black outfit. Look for dresses that are interesting on their own or have little details that make it different from the rest.

Don’t be afraid of fringes, beads, or additional things that give the outfit the oomph it needs. The beautiful part of this is that you can use your extra time to choose the right accessories. We recommend using a belt (black, of course) on a simple, patterned dress to further emphasize your beautiful waist. Or, failing that (because we are all lazy at heart), show off the stunning color with tousled hair and alluring confidence.

Let your freak flag fly! Ladies, seriously, just go ahead and show the world who you truly are. Wearing all black gives you the perfect chance for you to do this. For one thing, you will naturally look sexy. Black just makes a person look mysterious without the person even trying. For another, there are so many ways you can mix and match your outfit. If you want to do the extreme goth look, wear lots of leather (but follow the first rule, and try slipping in something a little soft so you don’t look like you belong in the pages of 50 shades of Grey). Wear grungy tunics with knee-high boots. Accessorize with shawls or beaded jackets. Wear that mini black dress with net tights!

Remember that black is the best place for you to start your road in being a fashion maven. No matter what your body shape is, you can easily transform into a stylish goddess just by applying the right techniques. One trend that is growing strong is the legging craze. Now, before we get started, let’s allow for a minute of deep breathing. I know, I know. Leggings aren’t pants. If you’re one of those women who will argue with me that only celebs can pull off this trend, please allow me to convince you otherwise. Leggings are incredibly comfortable and are not limited to just your yoga session. They’re flexible and stylish. I mean – come on – where else can you wear something that can potentially look professional and cool while still feeling like sweatpants?

Printed or patterned leggings sure can look intimidating but the truth of the matter is, they’re relatively easy to wear. You can dress them up or down, wearing them at home or pairing them with chic accessories for work or school.

Below, we rounded up the dos and don’ts of wearing patterned leggings.

Do Start Conservatively

The fashion anxiety will diminish once you get used to it. Try starting out with bottoms that have subtle details, like a paisley design, or even tiny polka dots, pinstripes, or tie-dyed patterns. Most people would pair this with of-the-moment finds, such as a cute crop top and bomber jacket. This keeps the look fresh and current. However, don’t be hindered by current trends. Since you’re keeping your legs on the down-low, you can match them with a more formal blouse and heels.

Don’t Sweat It

Patterned leggings are a trend, but that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your own personal style just to be accepted. Most of the looks with patterned leggings involve the “athleisure” style – meaning looking like you could easily go to the gym or a date in that outfit. Ankle boots and heels are usually paired with patterned leggings but many celebrities have been seen partnering them with sneakers for a more laid-back vibe. If you’re not really the sporty type, don’t worry about it. Dress up the outfit with a sweater and a vest.

Do Go For Balance

Patterned leggings can sometimes look like pajama pants, especially those that have a chino-styled cut. You can easily counteract this by pairing them with something neat and plain on top. Remember also to pay close attention to different textures and patterns. A brighter pair of leggings should be toned down with a more subdued top. One of the worst things to do is to match two extremely bright pieces together. You are not a sofa. People should not want to sit on you.

Do Buy Good Material

This is where we address the whole “leggings are not pants” thing. Most people already know this. Where you fall into error is not properly pairing it with a tunic or a simple dress that covers your butt. We really don’t want to see you in a vulnerable situation or have the horrid camel-toe experience (trust us, we’ve all gone through this). If you’re choosing a pair of leggings that is thin enough to show the seams of your underwear, make sure to pair it with bum-covering tops. On the other hand, opaque patterned leggings can be shown to their full glory with a cute shirt. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable with what you’re wearing. You never want to feel like you’re wearing your underwear on the outside. Superman you are not!

Don’t Stay Static

As you get more confident with this style, try experimenting with different looks. The classic, opaque black pair will always have a place in your wardrobe, but more athletic styles with ribbed details are cool too. Multi-colored patterns don’t also have to be paired with neutrals. You can try experimenting instead with hues. Match the leggings with a top that is from the same color palette.
