The Ultimate Jacket List, 2018 Edition
The Philippines may not have the prime weather conditions for jackets and coats, but that doesn’t mean we can’t wear them. Though big winter coats are definitely out of question, we do have an assortment of options for outerwear at our disposal. Besides, you are going to need them for your Baguio trips, as well as times like now when temperatures are dropping to the mid 20’s. And according to weather apps, temperatures won’t be letting up for the rest of the week. So while the weather does suck, one thing we can appreciate is the opportunity to put on some of our outerwear pieces that has just been hanging in our closets.
You might be asking what’s new in the outerwear department and if it is all that necessary to upgrade. If you haven’t kept up with jacket trends, no worries. We’ve compiled a list to catch you up, and maybe replace some of your older items that are better off as goodwill.
Of course, there are several mainstays not to mess with. For example, a blazer is a must for the office and an elegant item that will class up any outfit. A denim jacket is a year-round outerwear piece that blends well with most clothes. A leather moto adds that extra edge to every ensemble. A trench coat transitions between the seasons, and so forth.
Obviously, the list goes on, but let’s assume you’ve already got the classics and essentials. Instead, let’s focus on the jackets you need this season to refresh your wardrobe.
1. The Cape Blazer
The cape silhouette has been around for a while, but never got the full attention that it deserved. Perhaps it was the infamous trend that had people wearing their jackets in the non-traditional sense (aka wearing it off shoulder, or over the shoulders without wearing the sleeves). With open sleeves as seen on the Sleeveless Cape Blazer, there’s no need to keep that stiff posture, just so your jacket to sit on your shoulders. After all, jackets are meant to be worn, not draped.

2. The Bomber Jacket
The baseball-style bomber from the ‘80s has made a major comeback over the last couple of years, thanks to everlasting athleisure movement. For those looking for new ways to wear sporty chic ensembles, this Celeb Bomber Jacket will do it. And rather it being all puffy, like the Letterman jackets you saw on Varsity jocks in school, this bomber is more petite—perfectly tailored to a woman’s figure. Plus, the colors make it easier to wear, whether you’re leaning towards an athletic look or need a substitute for a white blazer.
Look elegant in this celebrity-inspired bomber jacket.
3. The Oversized Jacket
Coats and jackets tend to be geared towards slimmer fits. Thus, in terms of silhouettes, there’s not a lot of variety in the outerwear department. Often, we like to accentuate our curves rather than hide behind a lot of fabric. But when it comes to jackets, the bigger, the better. Throw it over some skinny jeans and a crop top for a contrast in fit. With the right outfit, you could appear slimmer than you would without the jacket.
The oversized trend has been seen across various textiles and patterns, so you’re bound to find something suited to your taste. Our favorite is this Oversized Camouflage Zipper Coat with floral accents. Pair that with black tank, black leggings and some sneakers, and you’re golden.

4. The Unconventional Denim Jacket
Yes, there is the option of the oversized denim jacket that ticks off two items in this list. Although for diversity’s sake, let’s explore the alternatives. From lace trims to biker-style, denim jackets have gone through extraordinary changes over the last couple of seasons. One of the most interesting ones we’ve come across is the Denim Hooded Wrap Trench Coat. While robe coats have been around for quite some time fashion scape, the jean variety is still considerably new. It’ll easily be the most comfortable denim item in your closet.
