We get it. Sometimes it feels embarrassing to talk about our vaginal health, but in all honesty, there is nothing to be ashamed of. Vaginal care should never be considered a taboo subject.
So let’s discuss what it takes to keep her clean and healthy.
In reality, it’s not that difficult to take care of her, considering that she does clean herself.
Here are a few tips to make sure your vagina is as healthy as possible:
Use the right soap
The safest way to wash your vagina is by using a non-perfumed, mild soap. Because your vagina has the ability to clean itself, you only really need to wash your intimate area once a day, maybe twice, if you’re on your period.
But for some ladies, perfumed soaps don’t bother them. Fragrances tend to irritate those with sensitive skin, though if you’ve been using perfumed soaps all your life, you should be fine.
The thing to look out for in a vaginal soap is if it’s pH balancing. Your vagina is at a specific pH to clean itself and kill bacteria, and if you don’t choose your soap carefully, the product could be dangerous for your vaginal health.

And definitely don’t douche
The vagina is a self cleaning oven, so why mess up the chemistry with a douche? The only part that you should be cleaning is your vulva, which is the outside structure, which we normally refer to as the vagina, even though it’s on the inside.
Moral of the story is to use soap on the vulva, and leave the vagina be so that it can work its magic.
Wear breathable underwear
La Senza and Victoria’s Secret may have really cute, sexy, and really comfy silk panties, but they’re not actually the best material for your vagina. Silk and satin tend to trap moisture, unlike cotton, which is airy enough to let your girl breathe.
Let’s face it though, not every one of us is going to choose to wear cotton panties every day. As long as you change your underwear daily, any fabric is fine.
Change your underwear after a workout
If you don’t have time to have a full shower after you work out, at least change out your workout gear into other clothes. The same goes for your underwear. Since moisture is the enemy, wearing the same underwear as you did during your workout is an absolute no-no.
Let her breathe at night
With your vagina covered up for most of the day by underwear, it’s important that you give her some time to breathe. Underwear traps moisture, and moisture is basically breeding ground for a bacterial infection. And the easy way to balance that out is by wearing your birthday suit at night.
It might feel strange sleeping naked, especially if you’re used to wearing pajamas. You can always start off by wearing loose shorts and going commando, or wearing a dress or a big tee with no underwear. Eventually, you’ll be comfortable enough to sleep in the nude. Plus, it’s a great way to cool down in the hot weather.
Or wear underwear less
Going commando in public seems really scandalous. However, when wearing no underwear is better for you than the alternative, then by all means, ditch the panties. Obviously, you’d still need to wear undies with jeans and other tight bottoms that may ride up, but for items such as maxi dresses, wide leg pants, and midi skirts, underwear is totally not necessary. Just be careful not to wear anything too short, in case there’s an unwanted gust of wind.
Get checked up regularly
Hospital checkups are terrifying enough, and some people feel like a vaginal screening is an invasion of privacy. But if you want to make sure that everything down there is in tip top shape, cancer and infection free, then you need to visit your gynecologist every year, and if possible, twice a year. Pap smears are the only way to know for sure what’s going on down there.
