What that is is basically taking old clothes and breathing new life into them by changing their silhouette, adding new details, generally making any changes to make your wardrobe new again. It could be as simple as turning a men’s polo into a basic loose tee, or as advanced as turning jeans you’ve outgrown into a tote or a patchwork chambray shirt. It doesn’t matter what old clothes you’ve got, there’s at least five different projects you can do for your raggedy plaid shirt and last year’s impulse buy that you never EVER wear. You could even turn old bed sheets, linens, or whatever fabrics you have around the house, into an array of tops, shorts and skirts, perhaps some dresses and pants if you have plenty of fabric to go around. You could even make some clothes for your little ones!

However, what ends up happening when we experiment with such fleeting fads is that we spend more than what we bargained for, only to donate it or hand it down to a family member because we simply lost interest in the trends.

Though the OOTDs on social media influencers definitely cost more than your monthly groceries, that does not mean you have to spend that much to create a similar outfit. Besides, it’s not about completely mimicking what you see in their posts; it’s about taking what you see and using that as a basis on how you can change things up with your existing wardrobe. You could even borrow from your husband’s or partner’s closet, turning his tees and shirts into dresses with a small addition of a waist belt if you love playing around with menswear.
